Every stitch is a promise you can hold in your hands.

We don't mass-produce. Each piece at Bare Leather is cut, hand-stitched, and finished by the same hands that shaped our first commission — because leather that lasts a lifetime deserves attention that can't be rushed.

The Process

From raw hide to heirloom — nothing is skipped

We source full-grain hides from American tanneries, cut each pattern by hand, and stitch every seam with waxed thread. The result is something that doesn't just age — it tells a story.

01

Source the Hide

We hand-pick full-grain hides from heritage tanneries in the American South — vegetable-tanned, never corrected.

02

Cut & Mark

Every pattern is laid by hand on the hide, grain direction considered, flaws avoided — no two pieces are identical.

03

Hand-Stitch

Saddle-stitched with beeswax-lined thread — twice as strong as machine stitch, and it only gets better with time.

04

Finish & Ship

Edge paint, condition, and a final inspection. Every piece leaves our shop ready to earn its patina.

Our Story

Born on a working street in the French Quarter

Bare Leather started as a one-man operation in a corner of the French Quarter, building custom bags for folks who wanted something that wouldn't end up in a landfill by next year. That hasn't changed — we're still a small shop, still hand-stitching every piece, still obsessed with the details most people never notice.

We source American and Italian hides, work with local metalsmiths for our hardware, and every product that leaves our shop carries the same standard we'd hold up to our own names. That's the New Orleans way — if it's not worth doing right, don't bother doing it at all.

What People Say

Trusted by folks who know quality

"Bought a custom bag for my husband — the stitching alone is worth the price. Three years later it still looks better than anything we bought at a department store."

— M. Thibodeaux

"I've been coming here for my work boots for years. They know my feet, they know my schedule, and the quality never wavers. Best cobbler and leather worker in the city, hands down."

— J. Landry

"Got a custom leather journal for my dad's birthday. The attention to detail is unreal — hand-stitched binding, real brass clasp, and it smells like actual leather, not that synthetic stuff."

— S. Duval
